The Auditors Guide to Internet Resources

JIM KAPLAN CIA CFE, was the Internal Audit Director for one of the largest school districts in the U.S. He earned a Master of Science in Accounting from the American University in Washington, D.C.. He is a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) the National Association of Local Government Auditors (N.A.L.G.A.) and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. From 1989 to 1995 as a contributing editor for The Internal Auditor, the professional journal of the IIA, his column Computers and Auditing (formerly PC Exchange) covered how auditors used computers. His writing appeared in the Internet Bulletin for CPA's by Kent Information Services, and Internal Auditing Alert by Research Institute of America. He is the author of The Auditor's Guide to Internet Resources, 2nd Editions, published by the Institute of Internal Auditors, Inc.

Mr. Kaplan developed an interest in electronic communications for audit professionals in the early 90's through the use of bulletin boards and online commercial information services such as America Online and CompuServe. His conceptual model of an AuditNet®, and his articles on electronic resources for auditors raised professional auditor awareness of electronic communications for audit productivity. In keeping with promoting the role of Internet for Auditors, he writes a monthly column for the Internet Bulletin for CPAs called Auditor on the Net. As founder of AuditNet®, he developed a home page on the World Wide Web that links auditors around the world with audit related resources. The latest addition to the resources available for auditors is The Auditor's Guide to Internet Resources, 2nd Edition published by the IIA. The book presents an introductory overview to the Internet and its applications as well as tools and techniques for using this resource in an auditing environment. To promote the concept of an AuditNet® he has spoken at IIA and AICPA Conferences, IIA chapters, State CPA Societies, Fraud Conferences, and Intergovernmental Audit Forum meetings. As a writer, educator, lecturer, and dedicated local government auditor, Jim Kaplan has promoted and encouraged the use of technology for audit productivity.
